Following the disappointing closure of Milverton post office last year, the campaign to reinstate postal services in Milverton is gaining momentum – with local Conservatives pressing ahead with a proposal for a Post Office counter in the Warwick District Council offices on Milverton Hill.

After campaigning vigorously last year against the closure, former Chief Fire Officer Wallace Redford has been working with the Conservative team on the District Council to promote the idea of opening a Post Office counter at Riverside House. Wallace says: “People in Milverton are rightly appalled at the way they have been treated – the loss of the Post Office has been a real blow.”

The Conservatives have called on Post Office Ltd to consider Cllr Les Caborn’s plans to re-instate services in the area through a counter in the One Stop Shop in the District Council offices. Cllr Caborn said: “Initially this proposal was rejected, but after further pressure and a meeting with Post Office Ltd representatives, discussions are now under way to see how the idea could be progressed. I think Post Office Ltd are coming to realise the extent of the public need for post office services in Milverton and I am hopeful we can persuade them to our point of view. We won’t give up.”

Speaking after a meeting with Cllr Caborn to discuss the plans, Mr Redford said: “The proposal for Riverside House is a good one – that would go some way towards filling the void left by the closure of the post office last year. I understand that negotiations are now at a sensitive stage but we will update residents as soon as there is any development in the campaign.”
